The Ρ Parameter and the Screening Phenomenon for Extra W and Z Gauge Bosons

چکیده
We generalize a previous construction of a fermiophobic model to the case of more than one extra W and Z gauge bosons. We focus in particular on the existence of screening configurations and their implication on the gauge boson mass spectrum. One of these configurations allows for the existence of a set of relatively light new gauge bosons, without violation of the quite restrictive bounds coming from the ρNC parameter. The links with Bess and degenerate Bess models are also discussed. CERN-TH/98-57 March 1998 E-mail addresses: [email protected] [email protected]

متن کاملExtension of the Sm
A new type of gauge extension of the SM is proposed. It is based on a SU (2) × SU (2) × U (1) group with the peculiarity that the gauge bosons of the extra SU (2) do not couple to fermions. This feature relaxes some of the constraints on the masses of the new gauge bosons, leaving the possibility of having lighter masses than in traditional extensions. The model exhibits several interesting pro...
متن کاملGauge Model of Generation Nonuniversality Reexamined
A gauge model of generation nonuniversality proposed in 1981 is reexamined in the light of present precision electroweak measurements. Two necessary features of this model are that the τ lifetime should be longer than predicted by the standard model and that the ρ parameter measured at the Z peak should have an additional negative contribution. Both trends are noticeable in present data. A futu...
متن کاملMasses of W and Z Bosons without Higgs
A Lagrangian of electroweak interactions without Higgs is used to study the contributions of quarks and leptons to the masses of the W and the Z bosons. It is shown that the SU(2) × U(1) symmetry is broken by both fermion masses and axial-vector components of the intermediate bosons. The masses of the W and the Z bosons are obtained to be m2W = 1 2 g2m2t and m 2 Z = ρm 2 W/cos θW with ρ ≃ 1. Tw...
متن کاملConstraints on Extended Neutral Gauge Structures
Indirect precision data are used to constrain the masses of possible extra Z ′ bosons and their mixings with the ordinary Z. We study a variety of Z ′ bosons as they appear in E 6 and left-right unification models, the sequential Z boson, and the example of an additional U (1) in a concrete model from heterotic string theory. In all cases the mixings are severely constrained (sin θ < 0.01). The...
